Where’s the List, huh?

Visited the family over the weekend… for anyone who’s even a little bit left of Atilla the Hun, getting into a political discussion around my sister’s kitchen table is like Daniel going into the lion’s den: Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter, and Son-in-law (loveable people all, to be sure) are steeped in the Fox News/AM Radio Call-in Show mindset. Yep, the subject of middle names arose at one point. By now I’m sure everyone’s received the email alert that Barack Obama’s middle name is Hussein (in fact, he’s Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.). Having that… islamofascist… errr… Moslem… errr… furrin middle name, apparently, means that Obama’s unfit to be POTUS. Wow: such poitical insight…

Sure hope someone can point out the line in the U. S. Constitution that contains the list of acceptable middle names for Presidents. Must be somewhere near that section about minimum age and citizenship, right? Clearly, those who find “Hussein” objectionable must have a list in mind. Surely it includes Wilson, Walker, and Milhous. Bet Dale’s on there, while neither Diane nor Jefferson is – but you have to wonder about Sidney.

Hmmm… gotta wonder: shouldn’t we choose a president on the basis of qualifications? positions? views on domestic and international issues? ability to lead?

Somehow I don’t think that middle names should rank too high on the list of criteria: kindly correct me if I’m wrong – and point me to the approved list, OK?
